Rummu Quarry is one of the most fascinating dive sites in our region. How did it become such a unique location for divers? The site dates back to 1938 when a Soviet prison, known as Murru Prison, was established here. Next to it was a limestone quarry where inmates were put to work. After Estonia regained independence in 1991, the quarry operations were stopped. Once the water pumps were shut down, the quarry flooded rapidly, submerging the former prison beneath the surface. It is said that the flooding happened so quickly that some machinery could not be removed in time, and many pieces still rest underwater today. What makes diving here truly special is the incredibly clear water, which is a rare sight in the Baltic region. Come and explore this underwater wonder with Coral Latvia Diving Center!
