Fuvahmulah Island, diving in Maldives

Fuvahmulah Island, Scuba Diving in Maldives

Join a diving trip to Fuvahmulah, Maldives, in November or December 2025 with Coral Latvia.

Fuvahmulah is one of the most unique and beautiful islands in the Maldives, located directly on the equator between two southern atolls, Addu and Huvadhoo. It is of volcanic origin, which makes it more similar to the Indonesian islands of Bali or Gili. It is also the only island in the Maldives archipelago with freshwater lakes and rich tropical vegetation, covered with mango trees, coconut palms, papaya, and vibrant tropical flowers.

Its unique location makes Fuvahmulah one of the top diving destinations in the world. The island rises as a solitary rock in the middle of the ocean and serves as a massive cleaning station and breeding ground for large pelagic species such as black ocean mantas, mola mola, and pilot whales.

Fuvahmulah is famous for its exceptional shark diversity, which can be observed all year round: tiger sharks, thresher sharks, hammerheads, silvertip sharks, whale sharks, grey reef sharks, and whitetip sharks. The reefs around the island are also home to yellowfin tuna, sailfish, marlins, and countless reef fish species.

Unlike many other Maldivian atolls, diving conditions here remain consistent throughout the year. Each dive around Fuvahmulah is unique and thrilling, no matter the season. There are more than 15 dive sites surrounding the island, all rich in marine life and exploration potential.

What makes Fuvahmulah truly special for divers worldwide are the tiger sharks. They inhabit the waters around the island and feed daily on the fish market’s leftovers. These sharks are not aggressive, and there have been no recorded attacks. Diving with tiger sharks is available every day and is not affected by currents, seasons, or weather. The dives are guided by experienced professionals who ensure full safety compliance. The chance to see tiger sharks here is 100% every single day.
